Starvault

Privacy Policy

Last updated August 9, 2026

Starvault ("we," "us," "our") is a media-tracking app for movies, TV, anime, manga, books, games, albums, and artists, with social features like friends, recommendations, and discussions. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address, username, and password (stored securely by our authentication provider — we never see your password in plain text). You may optionally add a profile picture and bio.

Content you create. Ratings, reviews, watch/read/play status, rankings, custom lists, comments, discussion posts, recommendations you send, and messages you exchange with friends.

Social information. Your friends list and the interactions (comments, recommendations, messages) between you and them.

Purchase information. If you subscribe to Starvault Premium, our payment processor (Google Play or Apple, via RevenueCat) shares subscription status and purchase history with us. We never see or store your payment card details.

Usage and device information. We use analytics and crash-reporting tools to understand how the app is used and to fix bugs. This can include app screens viewed, actions taken, device model, OS version, and diagnostic information at the time of a crash.

Third-party services we use

We share data with the following service providers, only as needed for them to do their job:

  • Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage.
  • RevenueCat and Google Play / Apple — process subscription purchases and manage entitlements.
  • PostHog — product analytics, to understand feature usage.
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting.
  • Google AdMob — shows ads to non-premium users, using Google's advertising identifiers.
  • Expo — delivers push notifications.
  • TMDB, AniList, Open Library, The New York Times, IGDB, iTunes, and TheAudioDB — provide the movie, TV, anime, manga, book, game, and music catalog data shown in the app. We send these services search/lookup queries for public catalog data; we do not send them your account information.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

How we use your information

To operate the app's core features (tracking, lists, social features), to process your Premium subscription, to send notifications you've opted into, to maintain and improve the app, to fix bugs, and to communicate with you about your account.

Your choices

Push and in-app notifications can be turned on or off independently in Settings. Custom lists can be made public or private at any time.

Deleting your account. You can permanently delete your account and everything tied to it — reviews, ratings, lists, friends, and messages — at any time from Settings → Delete Account, directly in the app. This action is immediate and cannot be undone. If you'd rather not use the app to do this, email us at feedback@starvaultapp.com and we'll delete it for you.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed from our systems, aside from what we're required to retain for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Children's privacy

Starvault is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted storage of credentials and access controls on our database. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
